The Grass is Always Greener . . .

Each year Eric and I usually take two trips; it is something we have done from the start of our marriage.

This past weekend we took a trip to Big Canoe for our eight year anniversary. The weather turned cold right before we left, which was perfect for a trip to North Georgia. We mostly stayed in. We took a hike. I got in some reading. Eric, as always, spent most of his time keeping the fire going. I cooked, and we ate great meals.

Big Canoe is one of our favorite "local" destinations. I love it up there. It is less than an hour drive but feels as though hours away. What I really love most is that it's so simple.

While on our hike, I was thinking (which I'm not able to do much anymore) about our marriage and how much I have enjoyed these past eight years. I really have a lot of fun with Eric and enjoy the time we get to spend together. Later that evening, we talked about what each of us has enjoyed most from our first eight years of marriage, and most of the moments mentioned were from the vacations we took together. It was such a good reminder to always make it a priority to get away - just us. It has only gotten harder with Madelyn, and I can only imagine how much harder it will be the bigger our family gets and the busier our lives become, but it's well worth it.

All this to say, the grass is not always greener on the other side, but where you water it.

Dear Baby - 16 Weeks

Dear Sweet Baby,

In less than two weeks, I'll find out if you are a little baby girl or baby boy. I can't wait! My belly is starting to poke out a little, not sure if that is you or the countless servings of biscuits and gravy.

Daddy and I look forward to seeing you soon! And if you could, please stop making me eat all those chocolate cookies.

I love you,
Mommy
